Have you ever been busy sewing with a hand machine and realised that your thumb is aching from the pressure against the wood of the handle? Here is the answer. A short length of foam pipe lagging held in place with an elastic band.
I don't actually use my thumb at all when I hand crank (except maybe to start it off) - I sort of stroke the handle with just 3 fingers, pushing down with my fingers straight on top of the handle and then curled around the handle to pull it up - like a workout for my hand I guess! Amazing the way we all find a way that suits us!
