Free Motion Mavericks - Week 352 - Very Newly Wed

Introducing the Bride and Groom, Genevieve and Gonzalo, married last Saturday.  This is my favourite wedding photo so far, taken by my husband not long after we had left the church.

They just look so happy, and possibly slightly relieved, that they are finally married.  When they got engaged back in May, it was difficult at that stage to foresee how well everything would finally fall into place.  In fact, had we set out to plan the day as it finally happened, I doubt we would have achieved it.

The wedding itself was held in St. James' Priory, founded in 1129, a church I am very fond of as it is just a couple of minutes' walk from where I used to work, and I used to pop in there often.  The reception was held in a restaurant just 5 minutes' walk away and that has two 13th century halls that we had the use of as function rooms.  In the midst of scruffy, bustling Bristol, we went from one ancient building to another to celebrate the day.  Friends and family came from different parts of England, Ireland and Spain - nobody got lost, and everyone (including the bride) was on time.  The sun shone, old friends were reunited and new ones made.  And of course, the groom was handsome and bride (biased mother speaking here) looked absolutely gorgeous.  Definitely a day that we will all remember for years to come!

There is a quilt I still have to make for them...

Here goes for Week 352:-

Many thanks to Andrée for linking up last time with her Traveller's Blanket.  If you haven't seen her blog post yet, nip over now and see more.

If you have no free motion quilting to show, feel free to link up and show any project you like.  Here are the usual rules, but feel free to ignore them.  To keep the original emphasis, however, preference will be given to free motion quilting when featuring projects from the previous week.

If you love free motion quilting, whether you are a beginner just taking the plunge, or you have reached the stage where you can do ostrich feathers with your eyes shut and still achieve perfect symmetry, then please link up.

Remember, FMQ is FMQ, whether your machine was made last week, or it is older than your granny.

Here are the very easy and slightly elastic rules:-

1.  Link up with any recent post, ideally from the last week but within the last month, which features a free motion quilting project, whether it is a work in progress or a finish.

2.  Link back to this post in your own post.

3.  Visit as many of the other participants as possible and say hello in the comments box.

4.  The link up will remain open for five days, from midnight to midnight GMT for the long weekend, Friday to Tuesday.

So far quilters from the USA, England, Wales, Australia, Canada, Germany, Holland, New Zealand, France, Macau, Russia, Ireland, Brazil and Sweden have taken part.  The
first participant from each new country will get a special mention the following week.

  1. Congratulations to the newlyweds and to you, Such a challenge to have a wedding during this pandemic. My mother in law lived in York and I can picture the event, walking from one spot to another….beautiful.

    1. Thank you Kathleen! Yes, it was nerve racking, arranging the wedding at a time like this, but we managed to time it so we didn't have restrictions on numbers.
Walking to the reception was fun. Bride and groom went in the limo, but the rest of us walked, through busy shopping streets, 60 of us!

  5. What a beautiful photo of the happy couple. Congratulations! I do hope you will eventually publish photos that show more of her dress and her veil—as I know you spent a lot of time helping make them special. I haven’t commented much over the last few years, but I have been paying attention. :)

    1. Thank you Janine Marie! Yes, more photos will follow. I didn't take a single photo myself (being MOB I just didn't have the time) and so far we only have a few. We should have some good ones soon, though!

  6. Hi Muv, I'm so happy that things went well. It's so hard to know what will be allowed from one week to another these days. I'm sure that you and Genevieve are relieved that it's done and was a wonderful success. Genevieve looks wonderful! Congrats!

    1. Thank you Andrée! Yes, the relief is enormous, and I feel so sorry for people who had to cancel weddings last year, or go ahead with reduced numbers. We are all so glad it went so well, and don't they look happy in the photo?
Now I have to come back to earth and plan the quilt. An ideal winter project!

  9. The veil is lovely, as is the bride (and I'm not biased). Great job. Glad you feel better, too. Sinus infections are tough.
