A Bit Battered but Pretty

This is a Singer 48K that I found in a second hand shop in South Wales a few weeks ago.  It is in a bit of a state - the metal will never shine again, it is too far gone -  but the decals are incredibly pretty and I have a serious soft spot for transverse shuttle machines, so it came home with me.  The design of the decals is known as Ottoman Carnation.

This machine has joined the queue for a clean up, but it might have a long wait.  I have a quilt to finish and I need to keep my hands clean.

  2. Hi Muv
Do you still have this machine? Did you ever get it cleaned up or sewing? I've just been reading a few interesting web pages about the 48K. Seems like an interesting machine. I would love to read more about how you got on with yours.

    1. Hello Gavin!

You have caught me out. I'm all talk. I still haven't sorted this machine out. Perhaps hearing from you was just the kick I needed...

    2. Hi Muv
Please don't think of it as a kick. I have been reading some conflicting material about these interesting hybrid transverse shuttle machines. Some writers claim that the 48K is rare having been manufactured only at Kiltbowie and others claim that the machines are only rare within the USA where it was never actively marketed. You seem to have picked up yours with the minimum of of difficulty. I love a mystery.

    3. It's OK Gavin, I welcome the odd kick or nudge, otherwise I might never get anything done.

Interestingly enough, it is the only one I have ever come across in a second hand shop. Perhaps I should make it my next tinkering project.

      Love, Muv

  3. Hi Lizzie, how are you getting on with your 48k? I found one recently too, and information is a little scarce, not surprising tho considering the machines.

    Thanks for posting your article!

    1. Well I have to confess that I am a totally lazy slug and haven't got round to cleaning it up yet. Such an admission.
