Free Motion Mavericks - Week 319 - Two Projects Finished

A couple of finished projects to show this week, a cardigan and a little coat.  Both are knitted using the seamless method, which was my technical milestone for 2020.

Firstly, this little cardigan.  I wasn't sure about this random yarn.  Before knitting it I thought the shades of pink, turquoise and yellow didn't go particularly well with each other.  If I hadn't alternated it with a grey and white yarn I'm sure I wouldn't have liked it at all.  Somehow the purple ribbing got it all under control (just the same as the binding pulls together all the colours in a quilt)...

... and the spotty buttons put the icing on the cake.

The little coat is a reworking of the pattern I am working on, and this time I got my maths right.

The cable didn't show up particularly well with the dark blue, probably because the fleck contrasts sharply with it, and the whole effect is a little busy, but I was pleased that I found exactly the shade of red that I wanted for the buttons.  There are eight all together - the top button is tucked out of sight when the collar is folded down...

and there is a surprise button at the back of the collar, which can be undone to turn the collar up on cold days.

As for sewing, I have made a few more lavender bags, and shall probably carry on until I have used up all the lavender I have.  As for quilting, perhaps I need you all to give me a good telling off in the comments and give me a kick to make something.  Just anything, to get me started again.

Here goes for Week 319:-

Many thanks to my co-host Andrée for linking up with her journal cover.  If you haven't seen her blog post yet, nip over now and see more.

If you have no free motion quilting to show, feel free to link up and show any project you like.  Here are the usual rules, but feel free to ignore them.  To keep the original emphasis, however, preference will be given to free motion quilting when featuring projects from the previous week.

If you love free motion quilting, whether you are a beginner just taking the plunge, or you have reached the stage where you can do ostrich feathers with your eyes shut and still achieve perfect symmetry, then please link up.

Remember, FMQ is FMQ, whether your machine was made last week, or it is older than your granny.

Here are the very easy and slightly elastic rules:-

1.  Link up with any recent post, ideally from the last week but within the last month, which features a free motion quilting project, whether it is a work in progress or a finish.

2.  Link back to this post in your own post.

3.  Visit as many of the other participants as possible and say hello in the comments box.

4.  The link up will remain open for five days, from midnight to midnight GMT for the long weekend, Friday to Tuesday.

So far quilters from the USA, England, Wales, Australia, Canada, Germany, Holland, New Zealand, France, Macau, Russia, Ireland, Brazil and Sweden have taken part.  The
first participant from each new country will get a special mention the following week.

  1. Oh, Muv -- both the cardigan and coat are just exquisite. I love how all of those colors play together in the rainbow cardigan, and the way the red buttons accentuate the flecks of color in the little blue coat. Great job on both of them!

    1. Thanks Rebecca Grace! It's the colours that make it fun. Just the same as quilting, really.

  2. I can give you a swift kick, but I am not sure it will do anything more than make your sore! LOL. Lovely sweaters! I need to restart my knitting mojo, can you send me some?

    1. Thanks Chris,
Kick gratefully received, and now here's one in return to get you knitting again. All you need is to find some wool you can't resist.

  3. I love seeing your knitting! I am so slow at it that I finished a cardigan I made for one of my granddaughters in time to give it to her for her birthday near Christmas - having started it over a year before! Mind you having said that I had restarted it as the pattern was taking me so long that I gave up and did it in stitching stitch instead. However, if you want a kick up the proverbial to get you started on something quilted, how about - a packing cube? I have been looking at these a lot lately, and have tried out a couple, and have thought how they would like nice in quilted cotton, as opposed to the lightweight fabrics they are generally made in.

    1. Thanks Lizzie! Getting the size right for the time of year for a cardigan for a little one can be a bit tricky!
Gosh, a packing cube. Now that is something I wouldn't finish. It involves zips.

    2. Isn't that strange..... it's only since the days of the internet that I realize that some people don't like doing zips. I love doing them!!

  4. Hi Muv, those are so cute!!! what lovely sweaters for your sweetie I bet :-) So, do you have any plans for quilting? I know that it's not always easy. I'm going to try very hard to do some FMQ this week since my daughter said that there are some fun things happening on Mars these days! Thanks for featuring my quilted journal. I can't wait to finally meet my friend and give it to her. Take care.

    1. Thanks Andrée.
I love the journal cover, and your friend will surely treasure it.
Perhaps I should make a tea cosy just for fun. The weather seems to be turning spring-like, and I have started on the outdoor jobs, so a tea cosy is a nice small project to get me started.
Looking forward to seeing your Martian themes!
