Counting Rows in Fisherman's Rib

The pattern that I am writing for a baby cardigan calls for counting rows.  There is no need to use a row counter, which I have never managed to use anyway because I always forget to wind to the next number.  It is easier just to look at the knitting and count the rows.

You can easily keep track of how many rows you have knitted in fisherman's rib by turning the work over and looking at the back.  Because every purl stitch on a right side row is slipped, on the back it shows up as a large V because it covers two rows.  On this picture I have used knitting needles to mark the first V above the plain rib at the bottom, and the tenth V.

On this picture I have used safety pins to mark every tenth V.  As the knitting grew, I put in a pin on every tenth V to make sure I didn't get carried away and knit the piece too long.  Here you can see at a glance that there are 31 big Vs, which equals 62 rows.

Free Motion Mavericks - Week 243 - The Path

Only a little bit of progress, but somehow the picture is becoming more real to me.  I have sketched in a section of path, which is leading into the scene, and the woods on the hill in the distance.  Because the scene is so green, I have been wondering whether I have enough shades to prevent the whole thing turning into a big indecipherable splodge.  I shall have to add extra tones in blending colours at a later stage to try and give depth and distinguish one green from another.  I foresee broken needles.

Time to catch up... Since the last linky I have been away to my niece's wedding, then my daughter came home for a week, and over the past couple of days I have been ill.  So this week's linky is a day late, and I have nothing to show.
