Free Motion Mavericks - Week 327 - London Buses

Yet another quilt top in the making, number six in the batch.  I think the fabric in the centre is a little distorted, and if so it must have happened when I gave it a wash before using it.  Everything is going uphill to the left, which I rather like.  It adds a little more life to the scene.  I enjoyed keeping to the red, white, blue and black colour scheme, the only variation being the rogue pink spots in the black and white spotty fabrics.  When I started I thought the blue with red spots on the right would be the best for the border.  This afternoon, in good daylight, the fabric on the left looks far better.  There is just about enough of it left to finish the job.

Meanwhile, the weather is still dry, far too dry for the time of year, so I have been concentrating on the outdoor jobs.  The potatoes are just beginning to peep up, and all the seeds I have planted can stay unwatered - I don't want them popping up in a hurry and getting killed off by frost in May.

If I suddenly start quilting next month, it means it's raining!  The weather forecast for the next week is more of the same.  We seem to have lost our prevailing westerlies, bringing the rain from the Atlantic, and have had weeks of winds from the East.  It doesn't bode well. It will probably pour down all summer to make up for lost time.

Free Motion Mavericks - Week 325 - Elephants Quilt Top

Brown always makes me nervous.  I am aesthetically scarred from having lived through the 1970s, when brown beige, and orange threatened to smother the world, and swirly carpets left you trembling in doorways, terrified to enter a room.  Now, some fifty years later, the elephant fabric has made me face up to my fears.  It called for shades of brown, turquoise and purple (another colour that had its glory days, was that the late 60s or early 70s?).

Now the top is finished, I love it. It has been added to my little pile of cradle quilt tops so I can start binge quilting in the next month or so.  In the meantime, all the hard work I have been putting in to the allotment is paying off.  All the potatoes are planted, the onions are doing nicely, there are some self-seeded leeks that are now in orderly rows, and the asparagus will be popping up soon.  So while the weather stays dry and I am grubbing around and staring at shades of brown and green for hours, I am looking forward to my next colour matching exercise.
