Underskirt almost done, just the veil to go...
The underskirt now has a little more shape to it. I have added another layer of netting and put in a makeshift hoop, using curtain wire - the excess is trailing across the floor on the left of the picture. I also experimented using clear plastic tubing, but that was a resounding failure because it kept curling back on itself and wouldn't form a firm circle. I thought the curtain wire would be too heavy, but it seems to be sufficiently robust and light enough for comfort. Next week my daughter has her appointment with the dressmaker to have the hem of her wedding dress taken up. I expect once a professional dressmaker sees the curtain wire she will laugh and tell me what I should have used. The curtain wire might turn out to be a temporary measure in the long run.
Tomorrow I am expecting a delivery of 2 metres of ivory tulle so I can make the veil. There are still two months to go until the wedding, so I shouldn't have any last minute sewing to do.
After all this sewing with white, I shall be glad to get going with a nice colourful quilt as a belated wedding present.
Here goes for Week 343:-
Many thanks to Chris for linking up last time with her star quilt. If you haven't seen her blog post yet, nip over now and see more.
Remember, FMQ is FMQ, whether your machine was made last week, or it is older than your granny.
Here are the very easy and slightly elastic rules:-
1. Link up with any recent post, ideally from the last week but within the last month, which features a free motion quilting project, whether it is a work in progress or a finish.
2. Link back to this post in your own post.
3. Visit as many of the other participants as possible and say hello in the comments box.
Hi Muv, that is looking great. Isn't it fun to use your creativity to figure out what to use as a hoop? Well done :-) I'm sure that you're looking forward to playing with colour soon. Good luck with the veil. Take care.
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrée! I started on the veil yesterday. It took ages to cut to shape - I'm not used to dealing with such flimsy stuff. It's making me look forward to quilting!
DeleteIt's going to be a lovely whoosh dress. Those 2 months will now romp by so fast!
ReplyDelete:D xx
Can't wait for the fitting this week. Yes, time is flying!
DeleteThe slip looks great. I'm sure the curtain wire will work great.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cheryl. In the end we found it didn't need the curtain wire. I had managed to put in enough netting to give the dress the right amount of flare. That was lucky!
