Cleaning Maria's Jones CS - Stage 1
Last Friday my friend Jo and I had tea and cake at Cordial and Grace followed by more tea and chat downstairs in the sewing parlour while we did some serious polishing on Maria's machine. So far the effort has gone on the metalwork, so the machine is beginning to shine.
There is still plenty of work to do. I haven't cleaned underneath yet, and the bobbin winder hasn't been polished. Once that has been done it will be time to oil it and try it out.

Wow, this is gorgeous!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely machine to sew on, too. Maria is very fond of her granny's machine
DeleteHi again, Muv!
ReplyDeleteDo you have any advice for cleaning the steel that runs from the bottom up into the machine, then out through the arm? I've cleaned all the easily accessible metal, but when I look up through the bottom of the machine, the steel that goes inside of it is just as caked with brown muck as the bottom was before it was cleaned.
Everything turns alright even without oiling, so should I just count my blessings, oil the machine up, and use it without trying to clean the interior?
Thank you,
Carly
Hello Carly,
DeleteYes, if it turns, just oil it and use it.
Love, Muv
Thanks! :)
